$328 Million Uber/Lyft Wage Theft Settlement
Between 2014 and 2017, Uber and Lyft stole millions from drivers’ pay. NYTWA began the fight to recover stolen wages for NYC drivers in 2015, when the union first filed a complaint about Uber and Lyft wage theft with the Attorney General. After an eight and a half year long campaign, drivers won! In November 2023, the AG reached a historic settlement with Uber and Lyft to recover the stolen wages.

Brothers and Sisters:
We have confirmed with the Office of the Attorney General and Rust Consulting that payments are being processed. All of the information the AG was waiting for regarding drivers with prior arbitration and class action settlements was sorted out and the AG instructed Rust last week to begin payments immediately. Rust is preparing the payments and asked for two weeks to complete the process so they can send out to all drivers at once. The following has been confirmed by the Office of the Attorney General and Rust Consulting:
80,000 payments will be mailed out or issued via Venmo or PayPal on August 7th.
As some drivers will receive a payment from the Uber/AG settlement and the Lyft/AG settlement, the 80K payments will go out to 52,801 individual drivers on August 7th. These payments are for drivers who applied up to July 23, 2024.
Also, three new updates:
• You will receive a text or email confirmation that your payment is on the way.
• Payments for Lyft will be paid in one payment, not in two installments, same as Uber.
• The deadline to apply had been extended to October 31st, 2024.
Rust Consulting will also be updating their website with this payment start date.
For those of you who are family members of a driver who has passed away, or if your name did not appear on the companies' list, or if you received the prior arbitration or class action case settlement funds, your payments will begin at a later date.

If you drove for Uber (anytime November 10, 2014 to May 22, 2017) and/or Lyft (anytime October 11, 2015 to July 31, 2017), you can apply to get your stolen wages back today!
How to apply
You will receive a notice with a claimant ID number from the settlement administrator, Rust Consulting. The notice will be sent via regular mail, email, and text message. If you worked for both Uber and Lyft during the settlement times, you will be given a different ID number for each company.
You will then have two options:
You can go to the website set up by Rust Consulting and enter your claimant ID number and submit a claim form online; or,
You can mail back the claim form which Rust sends to you in the mail.
If you are the family member of a driver who has passed away, do not fill out the form. The form requires that you swear under the law that you are the driver, which you are not. You must call Rust Consulting first or come to the union for next steps.

For “TLC License Number,” fill in your TLC driver’s license number (or what we call the hack license.)
The question about prior payments (question 4), is not asking about the 2017 monies that Uber automatically paid out to everyone. Question 4 is asking if you received monies from a court case or settlement such as through an arbitration you may have filed on this issue of wage theft from the sales tax and BCF deduction from your pay. So if you did not receive monies in the past from an arbitration or court settlement on this specific issue, you would say No. If you did receive money through a court case or arbitration on this specific issue, then you answer Yes and say how much.
Finally when you finish filing make sure to screenshot and/or print the claim confirmation document for your records.

Once you submit your form, it will be processed on a rolling basis. If Uber owes you money, you will be paid all at once. If Lyft owes you money, you will receive installment payments.

From this historic settlement victory, all current Uber and Lyft drivers in NYC and NYS will receive new benefits, including:
