The largest taxi driver union in the country, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, a multi-ethnic membership-based organization, was founded in 1998 to transform the taxi industry, and improve working conditions through organizing, political and media advocacy, litigation, direct legal services and access to health care. We are presently over 11,000-members strong.

The drivers of NYC’s over-13,000 medallion yellow taxicabs work 12-hour shifts without health insurance, retirement or paid time-off. Taxi drivers are 60 times more likely to be killed on the job than other workers. Drivers are subjected to discriminate-policing, excessive regulations and courts infamous for lack of due process.
